Lees verder

  2. Mosel Riesling I Julian Haart | Julian Haart

John Gilman: “The 2015 Mosel Riesling bottling is mostly Goldtröpfchen fruit this year. The wine was raised in its customary blend of fifty percent fuder and fifty percent stainless steel and is a fine bottle in the making. The bouquet offers up a youthful blend of pink grapefruit, wild yeasts, citrus peel, a fine base of slate minerality and a touch of Goldtröpfchen currant leaf in the upper register. On the palate the wine is fullish, crisp and beautifully balanced, with fine focus and grip, a lovely core and a very long, vibrant and beautifully transparent finish that shows excellent mineral drive and precision. Fine juice. 2016-2035+. 91.” Lees verder

  4. Weissburgunder | Van Volxem | Van Volxem

Lees verder

  6. Piesporter Riesling I Julian Haart | Julian Haart

John Gilman: "The Piesporter Riesling this year carries the Trocken designation, as it was finished around five grams per liter of residual sugar. This is made from the youngest vines that Julian works with in his parcels in Goldtröpfchen, which were all planted in 1985 and are now thirty years of age. The wine offers up a complex and classy bouquet of tart pear, orange zest, petrol, a fien base of slate, wild yeasts, a bit of currant leaf and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, crisp and complex, with outstanding focus and grip and a long, racy finish. Another really lovely bottle that will drink well out of the blocks, but age very well. 2016-2040. 92." Lees verder

  7. Riesling Kabinett Oberhäuser Leistenberg I Dönnhoff | Dönnhoff

Jancis Robinson: "Over many years the Leistenberg has proved that its true strength appears to lie in its charm and racy expression, and no category seems to suit it better than Kabinett. 2013 is no different, and although it may be slightly leaner in style than some predecessors, the delicate citrus fruit and animating acidity are a winning partnership which should give joy probably well beyond my cautious drink-by date." 8. Schubertslay Riesling Kabinett I Julian Haart | Julian Haart

John Gilman: "As readers may recall from last year’s article, Julian Haart ascribes to Dr. Manfred Prüm’s mantra that great, classic Kabinetten must be made from very old vines and higher yields, so as to capture that inherent, ethereal delicacy of true Mosel Kabinett. However, this was not possible in the very, very old vines that Julian has in the Schuberstlay, as these ancient, one hundred and ten year-old vines only produced twelve hectoliters per hectare in 2015! Nevertheless, though this wine has not been produced by the Kabinett maxims of Dr. Prüm, it is an utterly brilliant wine. The numbers are 11.5 grams per liter of acidity, seven percent alcohol and forty-one grams per liter of residual sugar. They add up to an absolutely stunning wine on both the nose and palate, with the beautiful bouquet offering up stunning delicacy in its mélange of currant, a touch of white cherry, lime blossoms, a bit of mint, a very refined base of slate and a topnote of iris blossoms. On the palate the wine is medium-bodied, very complex and filigreed, with lovely delicacy and bounce, fine focus and outstanding lift from its zesty acids on the very long and dancing finish. Brilliant juice. 2019-2040. 96." Lees verder

  9. Spätburgunder "Malterdingen" I Bernhard Huber | Bernhard Huber

The wine Advocate: 'From 22-year-old vines on loess and shell limestone soils, the cherry colored 2014 Malterdinger Spätburgunder trocken opens with a very clear, bright and spicy bouquet of wild red berries, cherries and beautiful earthy flavors. Medium to full-bodied, fruit-intense and vital on the palate, this is a very elegant, aromatic and silky textured Pinot in perfect balance. The acidity is remarkably fine and the finish, though still a very little bit reductive, is pure, dry, fresh and beautifully aromatic. This is an impressive village wine from Baden's Breisgau subregion. There is just a hint of toast and mocha flavors in the aftertaste.' Lees verder

  11. Ohligsberg Riesling Spätlese I Julian Haart | Julian Haart

John Gilman: “The 2015 Ohligsberg Spätlese was another of the wines in the cellar that was showing a bit grumpy after its very recent filtering. The nose, with some urging, shows notes of white peach, white cherry, slate, gentle notes of petrol, iris blossoms and an esthery topnote of bee pollen. On the palate the wine is pure, medium-full and racy, with a lovely core and a very long finish that shows off fine cut and grip. The detail and focus here is not available for dissection, due to its recent filtration, but I am sure that this will come back very well with a bit of recovery time. 2020-2050. 93-94+?” Lees verder

On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and really suave on the attack, with a lovely core, fine focus and balance, vibrant, seamless acids and excellent length and grip on the bouncy and classy finish. 2016-2035+. 91+.“ Lees verder

  13. Aulerde Riesling Trocken GG | Wittmann | Wittmann

Jancis Robbinson: "The Aulerde is usually one of Wittmann’s more fruit-driven Grosse Gewächse, but the conditions of 2013 required a slightly different approach. The master vintner does not aim for consistency year in, year out, but for an authentic expression of the individual vintage. The 2013 Aulerde shows an unrivalled vibrancy, which is based on a perfect partnership of crunchy fruit, invigorating acidity and fine herbal notions. The one constant that remains for any vintage is the Aulerde’s fumy minerality. If proof was needed that a wine is made in the vineyard, not the cellar, this is it. (MS), 18,5/20." Lees verder

  14. Spatburgunder "Alte Reben" I Bernard Huber | Bernhard Huber

Huber's 2014 Spatburgunder Alte Reben is a barrel selection from younger vines in the best vineyards. Fermented with roughly 40% whole clusters and aged in barriques, the 2014 offers an intense, fresh and spicy bouquet. The nose has some toasty/oaky flavors, but a very nice freshness from the stems. Silky, round and fresh on the palate, this cassis-fruited wine reveals a nice concentration and juiciness, with very nice grip in the firmly structured finish. The tannins are still somewhat harsh, but the wine is dry, straight and characterful. It will improve over the next several years. Lees verder

  15. Goldtröpfchen Riesling Grosses Gewächs I Julian Haart | Julian Haart

John Gilman: "The grand cru Trocken bottling from the Goldtröpfchen hails from a parcel of ungrafted vines that were planted in 1905. This was one of the wines that was a bit upset from its recent filtering, so I have scored it within a range, but it is clearly destined to be an outstanding wine. The bouquet is deep and pure, offering up notes of grapefruit, orange peel, a beautiful base of slate minerality, wild yeasts, gentle smokiness and a lovely topnote of botanicals. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, crisp and absolutely rock solid at the core, with fine nascent complexity, ripe acids and excellent focus and grip on the very long and classy finish. This will need some bottle age to start to truly blossom. 2020-2050+. 93-95." Lees verder

  16. Riesling Niederhauser Hermannshohle Auslese Goldkapsel | Dönnhoff | Dönnhoff

The Wine Advocate: 'The 2015 Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling Auslese is lovely, clear and flinty on the nose and, like the Spätlese, is characterized by its noble aristocracy, but also lemony freshness and great purity. There seems to be more crushed stones than grapes in this wine, which reflects a lot of the fastidious selection and the healthy condition of the processed grapes. On the palate, this is a generous and concentrated, but pure, piquant and buoyant Auslese of great expression and finesse. This vibrating wine is dancing over the palate, leaving loads of minerals and salts, which makes this a dangerous drug. The finish is piquant and salty--you simply can't stop drinking and adoring it. There is so much grip, tension and finesse here. 96 points.' Lees verder

The Wine Advocate: 'Wittmann's regular 2015 Morstein Riesling Auslese has a clear, elegant, fresh and subtle bouquet of tropical fruit aromas (figs, passion fruit). Fresh and piquant on the palate, with lots of salt and grip, this is dense, but not too sweet Auslese with great finesse and tension. The fruit and acidity are perfectly concentrated, but still transparent. There is touch of Mosel nature in this delicate and age-worthy Riesling.' Lees verder

  19. Schubertslay Riesling Auslese I Julian Haart | Julian Haart

John Gilman: "The 2015 Auslese from the Schubertslay included twenty-five percent botrytized berries, but as Julian noted, this was really very, very clean botrytis. The wine carries twelve grams per liter of acidity and one hundred grams per liter of residual sugar to balance it out. The lovely nose wafts from the glass in a pure and elegant blend of white cherries, bee pollen, lovely minerality, lime blossoms and a gentle topnote of wild yeasts. On the palate the wine is pure, fullish and very filigreed, with a fine core, great intensity of flavor, lovely focus and balance and a long, vibrant and youthfully complex finish. A classic, lifted and electric 2015 Auslese. 2023- 2070. 94+." Lees verder

  20. Ohligsberg Riesling Grosses Gewächs I Julian Haart | Julian Haart

John Gilman: "The Ohligsberg grand cru bottling hails from a parcel of vines planted in 1925, and these ninety-plus year-old vines have also produced an excellent wine in the 2015 vintage. This came in at 13.1 percent alcohol and was finished with three grams per liter of residual sugar. This too was grumpy from its recent filtering, but shows lovely constituent components in its bouquet of grapefruit, tart orange, petrol, wild yeasts, slate and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and focused, with an excellent core, a fien girdle of acidity and a very long, very mineral and pure finish. I am sure this too will be outstanding, despite tasting it at a moment of agitation in its elevage. 2019-2050+. 93-94+." Lees verder

  23. Riesling Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Trocken I Adam & Haart | Julian Haart

The Wine Advocate (over de 2014): 'From one of the rare ungrafted plots in the grand cru (which was reconstructed in the late 1980s and 1990s) the 2014 Goldtröpfchen Riesling trocken displays a super fine and highly complex bouquet with flinty and herbal aromas intermixed with ripe, elegant Riesling and red cassis flavors; there are also notes of coffee beans, nuts and fruit pips. Full-bodied, highly complex and elegant, this is great and straight terroir Riesling from the Mosel. It is really dry and mineral, nicely piquant and salty, as well as very pure, thanks to the old vines and small but intensely flavored grapes. The finish is enormously long and reveals the great structure, intensity and aging potential of this stunning Goldtröpfchen.' Lees verder

Jancis Robbinson: "I could wax lyrical about the nose, but would then have no superlatives left for the palate. A gentle honeycomb fragrance already indicates that the grapes must have been picked at optimum ripeness. In the mouth the Morstein releases a true firework of flavours, where just the fruit exhibits manifold dimensions from the juicy exotic to crunchy stone fruit, mouth-watering citrus to green and zesty peel notes. Add authentic acidity, profound salty minerality and a firm yet not overpowering body and all of a sudden 2013 almost looks like the vintage of the century. (MS) 19/20." Lees verder

Jancis Robbinson: "When you smell the bouquet of a Dönnhoff Grosses Gewächs, arguments about old school, modernist approach, oak and spontaneous aromas seem to become superfluous. The fragrance of the Hermannshöhle excels in freshness and clarity and there seems to be a smell of mountain stream, rocks, orchards and meadows. The fruit is a little greener than that of the Dellchen, but works wonderfully with the delicate aroma of garden herbs and a mere whiff of stone dust. Gooseberry and peach flan is just a poor descriptive attempt to catch the harmony of juicy fruit and creamy texture. A filigree framework of minerality and zesty peel adds subtle nuances to an everlasting finish." Lees verder
