Jean-Marc Bouley

Claude Kolm: ‘As I’ve indicated in reviews in the preceding years, Thomas Bouley has taken this estate to the exalted level of thes first division in Volnay, alongside such iconic names as Lafarge and d’Angerville.’ Neal Martin: ‘Thomas is an outstanding young winemaker and it is evinced in these exemplary, terroir-driven 2015s’ Michel Bettane: ‘The most refined Volnay village and Pommard premier cru in London. Impeccable balance, aritocratic texture, a sence of restraint but also artistic integration of oak. Thomas Boulay is a master. Hats off.”

  1. Bourgogne Hautes Côtes de Beaune Rouge I Jean-Marc Bouley

Burghound: 'A ripe but strikingly fresh nose features notes of red raspberry, cherry and a touch of earth. There is fine richness, and particularly so for the appellation, to the velvet-textured flavors that possess an agreeable texture, all wrapped in a mouth coating and lingering finish. Fine quality here. Outstanding. Topvalue' Lees verder

  2. Volnay I Jean-Marc Bouley

The Wordl of Fine Wine: ‘A closed nose leads to a taut, slender, but concentrated palate. There is tone and muscle, the tannins are super-fine. The red fruit has floral aspects but needs time. Elegant, understated, beautifully fresh; something to look forward to.” Lees verder

  3. Pommard I Jean-Marc Bouley

Burghound: ' Moderate reduction doesn't mask the appeal of the rich and relatively full-bodied flavors that possess both good volume and ample amounts of dry extract that buffer the firm tannins on the vibrant finish. This mildly rustic effort offers a bit more overall depth than the old vines Volnay cuvée. Note however that at least some patience will be required. outstanding. Topvalue' Lees verder

  4. Volnay "Clos de la Cave" I Jean-Marc Bouley

Burghound: 'A notably floral-inflected nose displays cool, ripe and pretty aromas of mostly red berries and soft spice nuances. There is a completely different texture to the middle weight flavors that are also more prominently stony before culminating in a caressing but focused finale. In a word, excellent. Outstanding. 5. Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes I Jean Marc Bouley

Neal Martin: 'The 2016 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes has a rather aloof bouquet at first and only reluctantly offers slightly rustic red berry fruit that gains harmony and poise with aeration. There is a light damp woodland aroma here, decaying autumn leaves. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, nicely poised, very classic in style with a mixture of red and black fruit, undergrowth and just a touch of tobacco toward the finish. This will require 3 or 4 years in barrel. Excellent.' Lees verder

  6. Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens I Jean-Marc Bouley

Neal Martin: 'The 2016 Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens (from "Rugiens-Haut") includes 30% whole bunch, whereas Thomas usually add no stems. He just found that the fruit was very ripe and the seeds almost back in color…so why not? Matured in 20% new oak, it has a crisp, slightly stemmy bouquet, very fresh with damp undergrowth and woodland scents filtering through the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, quite linear and poised, darker fruit than expected with quite a stern but refreshingly saline finish that needs to show a little more charm. I am intrigued to see how this ages, and it may well surpass my banded score.' Lees verder
