Méo-Camuzet

  1. Bourgogne Rouge | Meo-Camuzet

Claude Kolm: ‘The red Bourgogne has dark cherry aromas and flavors. The mouth is medium-full and intense with depth and good structure. It is a fine example of the quality Bourgogne rouge one can find in the vintage. The wine comes from vineyards that Méo-Camuzet has in Pommard, Vougeot, and Vosne near Nuits, as well as about 30% purchased wine.’ Lees verder

Lees verder

  3. Marsannay | Méo-Camuzet

John Gilman: ‘I always like what Jean-Nicolas Méo produces in the two villages of Marsannay and Fixin and I am glad that he pays such attention to these two communes. The 2014 Marsannay AC is quite red fruity in personality this year, offering up a bright bouquet of cherries, red berries, mustard seed, a lovely base of soil and a touch of cedar. On the palate the wine is fullish, pure and quite tangy, with a good core of red fruit, nice soil inflection and just a bit of backend tannin adding grip on the pretty long finish. A very good example.’ Lees verder

  4. Marsannay | Meo-Camuzet

Bourghound: 'Mild reduction presently overshadows the fruit. Like the Bourgogne the middle weight flavors are cool, pure and vibrant and they also possess a relatively refined mouth feel, all wrapped in a clean, dry and focused finale. This would also make a good choice for an upper level house red.' Lees verder

  5. Fixin | Meo-Camuzet

Burghound: 'This is surprisingly elegant in the context of what is typical with its perfumed dark currant, spice and soft earth nuances. There is more volume and a bit more richness as well to the velvety but detailed medium-bodied flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the lingering finish that displays only a trace of rusticity. This is quite good and worth a look.' Lees verder

  6. Nuits-Saint-Georges | Meo-Camuzet

Burghound: ‘A brooding and markedly restrained nose grudgingly reveals notes of dark berry liqueur, earth and sauvage nuances. There is both good power and tension to the muscular flavors that culminate in a rustic and mouth coating finish. This firm effort is very Nuits in basic character.’ Lees verder

  7. Vosne-Romanée | Meo-Camuzet

Burghound: ‘Noticeable wood frames the overtly spicy nose of dark pinot fruit, cassis and Asian-style tea nuances. There is excellent richness to the velvety medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate with dry extract on the delicious, complex and well-balanced finish. This is not an especially elegant Vosne villages but the quality is clearly excellent.’ Lees verder

  8. Vonse-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes | Meo-Camuzet

Gilman: ‘The 2014 Chaumes in the Méo cellars was more reserved in personality than either of the two Nuits premier crus that I tasted and I guess that this wine was another of the later-finishing malos. The purity on the nose is lovely, wafting from the glass in a blend of red and black plums, cocoa, a lovely base of soil, woodsmoke and cedar. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and quite reserved in personality today, with a good core, fine soil tones and a long, ripely tannic and primary finish. 2022-2055.’ Lees verder

  9. Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Murgers | Meo-Camuzet

Burghound: "This is also overtly spicy with its ripe and fresh array of earth-inflected violet, plum and red berry fruit aromas that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. Once again there is fine richness and volume to the bigger-bodied and muscular flavors that deliver excellent persistence on the dusty finish that is mildly austere and on the more rustic side than usual. The tannins also stick out somewhat at present though given this wine's consistent track record, I suspect that it will harmonize over the mid-term." Lees verder

  10. Corton Le Vigne au Saint Grand Cru | Meo-Camuzet

The 2014 les Vignes Cents was really showing beautiful potential at the time of my visit, wafting from the glass in a very fine blend of red and black cherries, venison, coffee, stony soil tones, mustard seed, cedary wood and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, fullbodied, pure and very suave on the attack, with a fine core, lovely soil signature and a very long, ripely tannic and beautifully balanced finish. An outstanding young Corton. 2025-2085. Lees verder

  11. Corton Grand Cru les Perrières | Meo-Camuzet

Burghound: ‘Reduction presently overshadows the fruit. Otherwise there is excellent intensity to the more mineral-driven and muscular flavors that possess impressive size, weight and power, all wrapped in a very firm and strikingly persistent finish. While there is a hint of warmth the overall balance is such that this should generously reward extended cellaring but note well that this won't make for especially good early drinking.’ Lees verder

  12. Corton Grand Cru Clos Rognet | Meo-Camuzet

Burghound: "Note: from a .45 ha parcel of 80+ year old vines. A very ripe yet still agreeably fresh and beautifully complex nose is comprised by liqueur-like aromas of spice, plum, earth and the classic wisp of the sauvage. There is outstanding richness and concentration to the powerful and mouth coating flavors that deliver seriously good persistence on the impeccably well-balanced finish. This is a big but graceful wine that should also amply repay extended cellaring, indeed it's going to require at least a decade of it." Lees verder
