  5. Pinot Noir Saint Hippolyte I Deiss

Terroir of old and poor granitic soil.Whose soil structure is basically granitic with little clay, making it light and fine, with filtering properties. This gives the wines from this area their fine character, both virile and elegant, sometimes austere in vintage years because the vines suffer from the lack of humidity, but more pleasant in the mouth on average years as the excess water is quickly drained away. The keywords behind St. Hippolyte wines are Bredding and Class. Aging potential : 15 years Lees verder

  6. Clos Rebberg Riesling | Kreydenweiss

The wine Advocate: '‘‘The 2015 Clos Rebberg Cru d'Alsace is from steep slopes with blueish, schistous soils that are are difficult to work and had been recultivated by Marc Kreydenweiss in the 1990s with Riesling. The 2015 develops an enormous complexity and depth on the pure and mineral nose. Very elegant and silky textured on the palate, this is a pure and salty dry Riesling with great delicacy and a stunning concentration of perfectly ripe fruits. Lemon flavors and crushed stones in the greatly finessed finish. This is a very promising Rebberg that was racked in September 2016 from the foudre to age on the fine lees for another year. Tasted as a sample in April 2017.’ Lees verder

  7. Moenchberg Pinot Gris Grand Cru | Kreydenweiss

The wine Advocate: ‘Tasted from the stainless-steel vat (after one year in 400- and 600-liter-oak barrels), the 2015 Grand Cru Moenchberg Pinot Gris opens with a clear, intense and spicy nose with some tropical and fresh fruit aromas along with sur-lie flavors. Lush, round and elegant, with a remarkable, racy-piquant acidity, this is a round and well-structured Pinot with a fine tannin structure, a lingering salinity, freshness and tropical fruit flavor. The creamy sweetness is well balanced by the full body, minerals and the crystalline acidity. This Pinot is cultivated on Buntsandstein (on the top of the cru) and marl (on the bottom) soils and has a very promising aging potential.’’ Lees verder

  8. Engelgarten I Marcel Deiss

The Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Engelgarten is clear, deep, fresh and flinty on the nose. Ripe, lush and round on the palate, but with a finely grained and racy acidity, this is a well-balanced, elegant and lingeringly salty, Riesling-dominated white wine that reveals a good tannin structure and needs another two or three years to gain more charm and a even rounder, more finessed texture." 9. Langenberg I Deiss

Terroir from Saint Hippolyte, steep, landscaped by historical terraces, southern exposure and consisting of poor and thin granite vine: a complex vineyard uniting the precocious grape variesties. Riesling planted here results in a salty symphony. First wine produced from “Complantation” on the local granite Terroir (St. Hippolytus). Nose of lemon, grapefruit and white flowers (lilies, elder), light mineral touches implying a spicy bouquet, a subtle and aerial palate just like a cloud of aromas, leaving a salinity end so characteristic of granite soils from St Hippolyte. The wine is broader and more complex than a single Riesling from St Hippolyte, the material is more subtle and bounces on small sour and tonic tremors. This wine can be paired perfectly with white asparagus, citrus sauce or Grilled Bar back on a slice of fennel. Lees verder

  10. Burlenberg I Deiss

Vinous: 'Deep ruby-red. Penetrating nose of red cherry, minerals and aromatic herbs. There is noteworthy texture to this fresh red, redolent with smoky red cherry and dark berry flavors. Finishes with noteworthy salinity and suave tannins, not to mention outstanding length. This wine was bottled just two weeks before my visit to the estate. Burlenberg means “burnt hill”; call me crazy, but I always find a smoky note in this wine.' Lees verder

  11. Kastelberg Riesling Grand Cru | Kreydenweiss

The wine Advocate: ‘The 2014 Grand Cru Kastelberg Riesling, bottled in September 2016 after two years of élevage in foudres, opens with an intense and floral bouquet that reveals a certain volatile acidity; flinty stony aromas remain in the background at this early stadium. Round and elegant on the palate, this is a pure and juicy Kastelberg with good mineral acidity, salinity, concentrated lemon fruit, and firm/mealy tannins that remind me of Pinot Noir. Still a bit dry in the finish, the 2014 needs another six or eight years, but should shine in ten and even in 20 years.’ Lees verder

  12. Altenberg de Bergheim Grand Cru I Marcel Deiss

The Wine Advocate: “The 2015 Grand Cru Altenberg de Bergheim is very intense, precise and deep on the nose and is more cool, spicy and earthy than the fruity 2014, displaying some green olive, avocado, tropical fruit and lemon flavors. The 2015 is full-bodied, sweet, finessed and elegant on the palate, provided with fine tannins, a good mineral grip and a stimulating bitterness in the finish. It is complex, finessed and elegant at the same time, very long and alluring. From this warm vintage this is a really stunning, gorgeous and seductive wine and great argument for the field blend. 96” Lees verder

  13. Schoenenbourg Grand Cru I Marcel Deiss

The wine Advocate: 'The 2015 Grand Cru Schoenenbourg opens clear, intense, precise and floral on the nose, with concentrated lemon confit and smoky gypsum flavors. This 2015 is really concentrated on the nose and displays a gorgeously fresh and vegetal greeniness. Sweet, finessed and lush on the creamy textured palate, this is a very precise and concentrated Schonenbourg with a very long, intense and seductive finish. There is great elegance, finesse and complexity here. Very salty. This is a great long-distance runner. 98.' Lees verder
